São Tomé e Príncipe - 25th Anniversary of Independence
Sheet of 4 stamps commemorating the 25th Anniversary of Independence of São Tome é Principé
5000 stamp showing Grey Parrot 10000 stamp showing mystery bird
The 5000 stamp of this sheet shows Grey Parrot (Psittacus erithacus) Grey Parrot. The bird on the 10000 stamp is a problem. Hawk or Pigeon?
It looks like a raptor, but I cannot find any African bird of prey which looks likethe bird on the stamp. Does anyone have any ideas about the identity of this one?

Please email me.

Update: Alain Reygel has suggested "I think this bird can't be anything but a dove. Considering the combination of the whole white belly, the brownish wings and the striking white forehead, I think this species is Turtur tympanistria. Cfr. Illustration in Van Perlo, Ber (2002). Illustrated checklist Birds of Western & Central Africa."

I agree that the bird does look like this species, but it does not occur on these islands. It is found on the nearby island of Bioko (formerly Fernando Poo), and the neighbouring mainland.
